Publication and aim
Journal began with publication in 2018 and continues the tradition of publishing peer-reviewed scientific and professional articles from the fields of archival science, documentology, records management and other sciences, connected to the problems of records and archival documents in archives, museums, libraries and galleries. Novelties from the field of theoretical bases of archival science and documentology, professional processes, research, standards, guidelines, best practices, projects and programmes are presented.

Publication predecessors
With the current title, the proceedings have been published since 2002. Between 1978 and 1983 the title was Arhivi and between 1983 and 2002 Sodobni arhivi.

From 2003 to 2017 proceedings of the international conference Technical and Filed related Problems of Traditional and Electronic Archiving have been published. Conference proceedings website

Publishing of articles: 
As a rule, the journal publishes articles presented at the international scientific conference Technical and Field Related Problems of Traditional and Electronic Archiving organized by the Regional Archives Maribor in Radenci, Slovenia. Call for papers is published once a year (in October).

Language:
Moderna arhivstika is a bilingual journal – all articles are published in Slovenian or English. All titles and abstracts of articles are in Slovenian and English.

Review policy
Contributions published in the first part of the journal (Articles) are reviewed anonymously (double-blind review). Each article is reviewed by two reviewers, who are well-established in domestic and foreign scientific circles, thus ensuring a high-quality and impartial review of articles.

Access
All published articles are made immediately available worldwide under an open access license.

This means the following:

  • Everyone has free and unlimited access to the full texts of all articles;
  • Everyone is free to reuse the published material if the original article is properly accredited and cited.

Copyright
Authors transfer to the publisher the material copyrights of reproduction, including the right of storage in electronic form, distribution, making available to the public, and the right of processing, exclusively for the purpose of translation. The transfer of rights applies to the contribution itself, as well as to all additional material (images, sketches, tables, etc.) submitted as part of the contribution or as an appendix to it. The transfer is non-exclusive and unlimited in terms of space and time. It applies to unlimited print runs, for use in all forms and media and in all languages.

Authors grant the publisher the right to the first publication of the article under a Creative Commons CC-BY NC SA 4.0 license.

All articles are published free of charge.

From 2023, Moderna arhivistika journal is included in the EBSCO database.
