The Maribor Water tower - 50 years after its lifting
In 1968, when Abu Simbel was moved, engineers in Maribor decided to undertake an extreme building achievement.
The Water Tower, weighing around 1500 tons, which was built in 1555 was endangered by the floods which followed the building of a dam on the Drava River. The engineers decided to lift the whole structure for 2.60 meters. This was done between December 21, 1967 and July 19, 1968.
The Regional Archives Maribor keeps a vast collection of photographs documenting the entire procedure. The exhibition will show the Water Tower before and after the procedure.
We kindly invite you to take a look at the exhibition, which is shown in the tower itself. It will be open on May 8, 2018 and available for seeing every day from 10 am to 8pm and from 10 am to 5 pm on Sundays.« Back
